New York orders temporary closure of live poultry markets for cleaning due to bird flu, affecting supply and prices, while human health risk remains low.

The order also temporarily shuts down all bird markets in Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties after 7 cases were detected in NYC poultry.

All live poultry markets in New York City and some of its suburbs were ordered Friday to close for a week after the detection of seven cases of avian flu, which has also hit farms nationwide, led to the slaughter of millions of birds and driven up egg prices.
