Dollar Tree is selling off its Family Dollar stores for about $1 billion in a move the company says strengthens both companies.

The acquisition by a consortium that includes Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management confirms Wall Street Journal report.

In a recent earnings call, Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling confirmed that the company is moving into the next phase of its multi-price expansion strategy, a shift that will introduce hundreds of new products priced between $1.50 and $7—and Louisiana stores are part of the rollout.
