The iconic Cape Verde date palm came from commercial trees gone feral and could provide genetic variety to boost the resilience of its tamer relatives.

When officers arrived, they found Elias Lopez Macario, 19, of Palm City dead in the road near a Kubota skid steer loader.

The new trees were made possible by a partnership between the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, the Florida Forest Service, and an urban forestry nonprofit called Community Greening.
