It began in the 1920s when Honolulu Star-Bulletin writers Don Blanding and Grace Tower Warren saw a decline in lei. They came up with the idea of celebrating the beloved Hawaiian garland.

The Hawaiian-themed water parks in Garland and The Colony have rebranded as Hawaiian Waters. Both include attractions like a lazy river, wave pools, slides, thrill rides, kiddie pools and cabanas.
