PHILADELPHIA — Steve Settle scored 15 points as Temple upset North Texas 66-61 on Sunday in the final game of the regular season. Both teams advance to the American Athletic Association Conference Tournament. Ninth-seeded Temple plays a second-round game Thursday. North Texas, the No. 2 seed, plays a quarterfinal game Friday.

BOTTOM LINE: Temple takes on Charlotte in the AAC Tournament. The Owls are 13-5 against AAC opponents and 6-5 in non-conference play. Temple is sixth in the AAC scoring 67.4 points while shooting 39.1% from the field. The 49ers are 6-14 against AAC teams. Charlotte is 1-1 in games decided by less than 4 points.

When the final buzzer sounded in Dickies Arena last March, and Temple fell short against Rice as the No. 3 seed and the highest team remaining, they strongly felt they had a chance to win the tournament and head to the NCAA women’s tournament for the first time since the 2017 season.
