NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore completed a spacewalk Thursday while awaiting their delayed return to Earth. Williams set a new spacewalking record for female astronauts during the mission.

A photographer on Earth has captured an incredible telescope image of NASA astronaut Suni Williams outside of the International Space Station, as it passed by roughly 250 miles overhead.

President Donald Trump took to social media this week to announce he had directed SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to “go get” two NASA astronauts who have been on a protracted stay at the International Space Station after their Boeing Starliner mission, which launched in June and was expected to last about eight days, ran into multiple technical issues.

"Here we go," Mr Wilmore remarked as he exited the station, 420 kilometres above Earth, in a video livestreamed by NASA on X.

Starliner astronaut Sunita Williams says she and crewmate Butch Wilmore have not been "abandoned" in space, as NASA considers plans to speed their return.

Instead, technical failures turned their short trip into an unexpectedly prolonged stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
