Diwali (English: / d ɪ ˈ w ɑː l iː /), also called Deepavali (IAST: Dīpāvalī) or Deepawali (IAST: Dīpāwalī), [4] is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions such as Jainism and Sikhism.

Diwali celebrates the victory of the good over evil and the restoration of Dharma. Numerous Hindu gods and goddesses are worshipped during the week long festival. The most popular belief is that Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14-year exile and people lit lamps to receive him.
