The L98 Cadet General Purpose (GP) Rifle is used for weapons training by the Combined Cadet Force and Community Cadet Forces. The L98A2 is identical to the L85A2 rifle save for the absence of fully automatic capability and a plain foresight blade without a tritium insert.

The L98A1 Rifle is a full-calibre (.223" or 5.56mm), non self-loading modified version of the "Individual Weapon" L85A1 and A2 - SA80 Service rifles for Cadet and training use. The action can only be cycled manually by use of the cocking lever.

Cadet GP Rifle (GP - General Purpose) is the advanced rifle used by the Army, Navy and Air Cadet shooting. This weapon was introduced alongside the SA80 from 1989 onwards for cadet use, as at the time cadets were only allowed to fire semi-automatic weapons.

Cock the weapon and apply the holding open device. Ensure the weapon is horizontal, but upside down. Pull the rear TMH pin out fully, then push it back in till it clicks once, Ensure the plunger is not in the 12 or 6 o’clock position. Rotate plug to the “N” normal. Put the safety to fire (F) and operate the trigger, the weapon should fire.

Feb 16, 2024 · An Air Cadet of 234 Squadron Air Training Corps fires the later model L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle, distinguishable from the L85A2 only by its lack of change lever (selector switch) and the markings visible here, which reveal it to have been built as an L85A1 at Royal Ordnance Nottingham in 1990.

This new training version became the Enfield GP Cadet Rifle - the L98A1 and the later L98A2, the former being a magazine-fed, straight-pull action rifle that required the bolt cocking-handle to be cycled to reload for each shot.

Apr 16, 2013 · Actually, I think the L98A2 is OK for cadet use and is a good training stepping-stone should a cadet progress into the military. The weapon is a bit complicated perhaps, but it’s a huge improvement over the politically-correct abomination that was the A1 version.
