Oct 22, 2024 · Then I changed the default to Adobe Acrobat and it changed the icons. I switched back to Edge, and when I opened a pdf, they changed back. Apparently, having Edge be the default handler for pdfs changes the icon to a white outline of a file, essentially making it invisible against a white background.

Jun 25, 2014 · On one computer I have Adobe Reader, and using Insert > Object will display the first page of the PDF in the Word document. On another computer I removed Adobe Reader and replaced it with Nitro Reader, and there I can only get an icon in the Word file. The clue is that it's the Nitro icon, not the generic Windows object icon.
