Oct 8, 2008 · The 5 tire rotation was the recommended tire rotation some 30+ years ago. It’s started to fall out of favor when radial tires were first introduced. Back then one a radial had 5-10k miles on them it was considered unwise to rotate them to the other side of the vehicle. So the 4-tire rotation became the standard.

Aug 27, 2008 · Tire rotation every 6 months is a good thing! However, re-balancing the tires each time that they are rotated may or may not be necessary. I have occasionally had to have a tire re-balanced, but generally speaking, it is not necessary as a routine procedure when a rotation is done. As for alignment every six months, that is really overkill.

Most tires on the non-drive wheels will develop feathering and get bumpy after about 6,000 miles. The bumps can get really bad on some tires. Other cars will never produce any odd wear, but the worse cases are really spectacular.

Also follow the manufacturers advice on how to rotate, basically there are 2 ways the do it, one is directional i.e. front set to back and vice versa and another is Cross Rotation in which when the back comes to the front it is fitted to the side which is diagonally opposite to the old position of that tire.
