The Silvan Elves, or Tawarwaith in Sindarin (also called Wood-elves, Woodland Elves,[1] or East-elves[2]) were a subgroup of the Nandor, ultimately of Telerin descent. As Úmanyar, they, like the Sindar, began the Great Journey but did not complete it.

During the latter half of the Years of the Trees of the First Age, the Nandorin and Avarin Elves populated the forest between the Misty Mountains and the far eastern lands, eventually intermarrying and becoming Silvan Elves, or Wood-elves as they were more commonly known.
